Matthew 5:13–16 (ESV)

13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus teaches us the importance of the work we do.

He starts by calling his followers (US) Salt

salt purifies, as long as it keeps its saltiness

When it loses its saltiness it become useless

Our Works should make the world a better place

not our arguments

not our debates

not our tithes

not our offering

Our works

Titus 3:14 (ESV)

14 And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.

Just as salt is only as good as it is salty, Christians are only as good as they are Christlike

1 John 2:6 (ESV)

6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

1 Corinthians 11:1 (ESV)

1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

there works are about

Selfless not selfish

God’s Kingdom not theirs

Delayed rewords not instant gratification

Jesus then calls us light. Light guides people to where they need to go.

Our Works should point people to Christ

2 Timothy 2:15 (ESV)

15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Just as a light is used to point out a path out life should help point a way to Christ

we do this by

living according to the Bible

The bible is a light into our path, if we are lighting our paths others can use our light.

chose to always move forward

a light is no good if your are just going to stand there

seeing where to go is only half the battle, you still have to get there.

Share your light to whoever you can

we have a light to help others walk the path

its not just for us but everyone around us.

Our actions will point others to something

we can not help that

We are ether point to God, pointing to the World , or not pointing anywhere

Point to God is living a life according to to scripture

Pointing to the world is living a life for your own self

Pointing no where confuses people because you are trying to do both

its confusing and it doesn’t work

we can only point in one directions at a time.

How can we point to God

Ephesians 4:31–32 (ESV)

31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
